Traffic on Mainstreets of Tahoe Park

We have completed our walk audit sponsored by Walk Sacramento! We are pleased to announce our project and are meeting with leaders in the community to discuss traffic and pedestrian safety issues that are affecting the main street of Tahoe Park. We are moving right along as we have completed TPA's walk audit. TPA has taken the "Safe Routes to School Pledge". We have identified major problems with unsafe speeds and lack of infastructure to enforce speed among other issues.

Creating the balance of beauty, form, function on Tahoe Park's main streets is important to preserve the overall walkablity of our streets.  Currently there are two major issues going on we are looking at:

ISSUE 1:  UCD Expansion

Communting school children from Oak Park and local Tahoe Park elementary school children on foot and by bike can not go to school safely to date as they take thier life in thier hands in doing so This is somthing TPA is seriously concerned about.

Little has been done regarding the deplorable conditions of pedestrian safety in Tahoe Park. Senior Centers also line the heart of Tahoe Park however they are not able to walk or cross the street safety even though the speed limit is 25 miles an hour from 53rd and Broadway to 58. This issue is problematic as most seniors use public transit or walk in Tahoe Park. Residents within Tahoe Park are also experiencing dangerous and heavily trafficked areas compromising pedestrian safety.

Currently the UCD Medical Center plans to expand closer to Tahoe Park by making 50th and Broadway it's primary entrance along with the Stockton entrance. While it may keep other entrances on Stockton and 49th open, this will funnel traffic onto Broadway.  This will also funnel UCDMC traffic into Tahoe Park. What makes this ever more critical is the Elmhurst street closures which have already happened. This will only compound issues as they develop the area futher.
